Anti-Counterfeit Department Report, United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Infringement of CK Calvin Klein

Our investigators reported that large quantities of counterfeit CK products are distributed and sold in UAE. Acting under instructions of CALVIN KLEIN – New York and with joint efforts of our office (NJQ & Associates), Baker & McKenzie – UK (Paul Rawlinson), and Intelligence & Investigation Services Limited IIS (Jane Forrest and Tim Mascall), we filed complaints in the three major emirates.

Furthermore, in an effort to increase and develop the awareness of UAE officials regarding counterfeit products, a seminar was held, during which the IIS representatives tackled the various aspects of identifying fake goods.

Dubai:
With the coordination of the Dubai Economic Development Department inspectors, our investigators, Paul Rawlinson and representatives of IIS, raids were carried out against the dealers of fake products, which were successfully confiscated.

Sharjah:
On the same day and at the same time, raids were also carried out in the Emirate of Sharjah, which is considered as the storage and warehouses for Dubai’s traders/dealers. The results were favorable in that all fake products were successfully seized.

Abu Dhabi:
Simultaneously, another complaint was filed with the Public Prosecutor against certain infringers in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Now, since the authority in charge is the Public Prosecutor himself and the police carry out the raids, no other party is allowed to accompany them.
