Egypt - Minimum trademark filing requirements revised

 

The Egyptian TMO revised its requirements to submit all documents at the time of

filing of trademark applications, and returned to the previous practice.

 

Accordingly, the power of attorney and Certificate of incorporation (both legalized) can

be filed within 3 months from the date of filing (non-extendable).

 

Nepal-Update

This is to advise you that official fees of trademark matters have been increased as of

the end of September 2005.

Our revised schedule of charges reflects the official increase only.

 

Libya Joined PCT Agreement

This is to advise that Libya joined the PCT  Agreement effective as of September 15,

2005.


Accordingly, PCT application requirements are:
 

  1. International Application Form.
  2. International Search Report.
  3. PCT Preliminary Examination Report, if available.
  4. Certified copy of priority document.
  5. Arabic translation of specifications, claims abstract and drawings.
  6. Duly legalized deed of assignment up to the Libyan Consulate if the inventor is not the applicant.
  7. Duly legalized power of attorney up to the Libyan Consulate.
  8. Certified copy of the certificate of incorporation or extract from the commercial register duly legalized up to the Libyan Consulate.

 

Iraq- Re-constitution of files

 

The Iraqi Ministry of Industry and Minerals has issued a circular, No. 24845 dated

September 29, 2005, but it was only distributed on October 18, 2005.

 

The circular states that all owners of trademark registrations and applications are

requested to provide complete photocopies of applications or registration certificates or any other documents within 3 months from October 1, 2005.

 

Otherwise, the Ministry bears no responsibility for any damage for those who did not do so within the said period.

 

Kuwait - Revising filing requirements

 

The Kuwaiti Trademark Registrar recently decided temporarily not to require a legalized copy of home or foreign Registration Certificates, and limited the requirements to a legalized power of attorney during a meeting held with the Registrar, he confirmed that he may ask for the said documents in certain cases only.

Moreover, to show more cooperation and flexibility, the KTO is now accepting a late

filing of the power of attorney.

 


Jordan

 

New regulations regarding Accepting of Patents

 

Patents based on foreign applications must provide with letters patent after issuance

under B1 or B2.
 

As for those patents not granted yet, the application will remain pending until it is

issued.

 

New Regulations Regarding the List of Goods in Class 35
 

As you know, Jordan follows the International Classification  Nice 7th Edition (i.e. classes from 1 to 42).


The Registrar decided that the services of wholesale and retail sales must be registered under class 42 instead of class 35 according to the Nice 8th Edition.
