Yemen Update regarding renewals grace period

This is to advise you that as of July 2007, the Yemeni Trademark Office (YTMO) has become very strict regarding the grace period for a late renewal to 3 months after expiration. In the past, even though the law only allows for 3 months, the YTMO was accepting late renewal applications for up to a year after the end of the protection period. It is worth mentioning that renewal applications can be filed within the last year of expiration.

Bahrain
Opposition

Our client, Quilate Services Limitada, the owner of the trademark "LA MARTINA", has filed an opposition against "La Martina Polo Player Gear and Device" No.041803 in class (25) in the name of Phoenicia Trading Int. Limited in Bahrain.

The opposition was based on confusing similarity with our client's prior registration and well-known trademark.

The Registrar issued his decision in our client's favor by stopping the registration procedures of the opposed mark.

Iraq

With deep sorrow, we inform you that the Registrar of Trademarks in Iraq was kidnapped by an unknown group for unknown reasons 3 weeks ago, and this has resulted in a delay of the office operations.
